4 Ways a Virtual Bookkeeper Can Help You During Tax Season
Oh no, is it really that time of year again? Anxiety skyrockets as you think about doing your annual tax return! You say to yourself things like: “How did it get here so quickly?” “Didn’t we JUST file our taxes?” “Where did I put that shoebox full of receipts?” “Is my payroll in order?” “Did I file all of my quarterly payments?” AARRGGHH.
If your brain goes into this type of ‘deep freeze’ the same time each year, you are not alone!
If you are like many business owners, thinking about getting all of your backup documentation together may cause a chill to travel up and down your spine. But, we all know the importance of having that documentation.
In order to get as many deductions as we can and, more importantly, to do it according to the tax code, we need to have organized records. We NEVER want to be unprepared in the event of a dreaded tax audit!
It doesn’t matter whether the economy is growing or shrinking, whether we made $1 million or $20,000, we MUST file our taxes. As the old saying goes, “Nothing is certain but death and taxes.” Given a choice between the two, I would take the latter any day. In tough economic times, small businesses need to be just as prepared with tax filing than when income soars.

How to Know When to Call in Outside Business Experts
Author: Allan Kunigis (writer for: The Hartford – Business Owner’s Playbook (r)
Part of addressing your organization’s weaknesses is to get help from outside experts who can fill in or add value when and where it’s needed. That can help to free you to spend more time and energy exploiting your strengths, and it can improve your company’s overall results.
Know where you need help.
Smart management involves knowing when to do it yourself, and when it’s better to outsource a task to the best resources from outside the firm. Always consider whether a given problem or challenge could be resolved most effectively by adding to your staff, by improving your staff’s capabilities through training and mentoring, or by outsourcing.
If You’re Using These Words, Then You’re Showing Hidden Signs of Stress!
Interesting article from Entrepreneur magazine – by staff writer, Rose Leadem, Nov 10, 2017
While headaches and mood swings are often indicators of stress, turns out the way we speak is, too.
From mood swings to being unable to fall asleep at night — some things are clear symptoms of stress. However, it turns out stress manifests in many forms, like in the way we speak.
A recent study published by the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United State of America found that when people are stressed, they overuse certain words, like “really,” “incredibly” and “very.” By analyzing over 22,000 voice recordings of 143 people who wore audio recorders for two days, the researchers looked at how stress might be reflected in people’s speech patterns.
TIMESAVER Tip #1:
TURN GMAIL INTO YOUR PRODUCTIVE HUB:
Whenever an email lands in my inbox and it contains something that I need to do, I star it.
You could easily label it too, it’s just that stars are perfect, if you don’t use them for anything else.
So, starred mails are now my to-do list. Every morning, I open up the previously starred emails and go through the list, to see what needs to go into today’s to-do list.
I add all those items manually to Google Tasks, which is a mini-window in Gmail, much like any chat box. For the rest of the day, my to-do list is available for me at a glance.
Here’s the important part: You need to de-star an email once you add it to your Tasks, otherwise, your starred items inbox will get to a point where you can’t separate what’s old and what’s new.
